Blame the DISCO's: Minister of Power

Image
Minister of power Adelabu has criticized the electricity distribution companies for the inadequate power supply, stating that they have let Nigerians down and continue to be the most vulnerable part of the power supply chain. Adelabu expressed concern over the persistently low payments made by power distributors, particularly the Discos in northern Nigeria, highlighting that they fulfilled only 30 percent of the anticipated revenue last year. Adelabu, addressing an audience in Ikot-Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, during a two-day retreat hosted by the Senate Committee on Power, highlighted that the monthly subsidy deficit of N200 billion makes it "unsustainable" to keep the existing tariffs. This situation, he noted, is placing a considerable burden on public finances. In a statement from Bolaji Tunji, the Special Adviser for Strategic Communication and Media Relations to the Minister, mentioned that Adelabu urged the National Assembly to pass more stringent laws to protect Nige...

Atiku, Obi Alliance: Dead on Arrival

Image
Atiku, on his own, cannot scrape together 500,000 votes nationally, while Obi depends entirely on sympathy and sentiment to thrive . Atiku keeps deceiving himself, thinking Atikulates make up most of the 6.9 million votes he received as PDP candidate in 2023. He ignores his own history, like his 2007 run as AC candidate, his 2011 PDP primary defeat, or his 2014 APC defeat. Obi’s 2023 votes came from sympathy, mostly from southeast and southsouth PDP supporters who felt betrayed by the party picking Atiku over a southern candidate. He also gained from protest over APC’s Muslim-Muslim ticket of Tinubu and Shettima, with northern Christians and others fearing Nigeria’s Islamization. Come 2027, things have changed. Neither southern nor northern Christians, nor even the Christian Association of Nigeria, mention Islamization. Those who backed a southern candidate in 2023 still insist on such for 2027. Therefore, it is delusional to think the 6.1 million who voted LP in 2023 are locked in for...

IBB: The Sinner who Outlived his Karma

Image
In all your doings , try not to get killed for any cause. The grave is silent, and martyrs seldom get to write their own stories. Whatever you believe in, endeavour to stay alive first, dead men don’t debate, and history is often kinder to the living than the fallen. Saul was a butcher of the early church, a terror to the apostles, his hands stained with the blood of the faithful. Yet, when the tide turned, he was invited to the table of grace, rechristened Paul, and his past was swept under the rug of redemption. The saints who perished at his command became mere footnotes, while he ascended the ranks of divinity, penning scripture, and shaping doctrine. Fast forward to yesterday, and the same script played out in Abuja. The elites gathered to celebrate IBB, a man whose hands once gripped the levers of power and snuffed out the hopes of a nation on June 12. I loved that his unenviable role in our democratic history was recounted to him, as Asiwaju reminded him that he had the chance t...
